For those seeking to indulge their adventurous spirit, the Pindos Mountains offer a rugged terrain perfect for hiking and exploration.
While the rivers of Voidomatis and Arachthos provide an ideal setting for a thrilling rafting experience.
So, let us set forth and discover the hidden gems that await us on this exhilarating journey.
Day Four
Embark on a journey of discovery on the final day of your trip, as Greece reveals its hidden treasures that are only savored by locals.
A route less traveled awaits, where the Ionian Sea’s coastline stretches as far as the eye can see.
Covering a distance of approximately 550 km/330 miles, this day’s adventure will culminate in Athens. It’s imperative to start early to make the most of the day.
Dodona
Setting off from Ioannina, head towards Igoumenitsa via the Egnatia Road, and make your first stop at the ancient site and theatre of Dodona, a place where the famous Oracle of Dodona once advised.
This well-preserved archaeological site is a must-visit destination that takes only 20 to 25 minutes to reach.
Parga
The journey continues along the Egnatia road, and the next stop on the itinerary is the charming, historic town of Parga.
Situated by the seaside, Parga is a picturesque town where you can indulge in sea-bound activities if the weather permits.
Leaving Parga, follow the signs that will lead you towards Aktion and Preveza, and cross the undersea tunnel.
Lefkada
The drive along the coastline continues until signs indicate the approach to Lefkada, one of the seven Ionian Islands that’s connected to the mainland via a bridge.
Lefkada is an emerging tourist destination in Greece, and exploring its capital city is a fantastic idea.
After taking in Lefkada’s allure, follow the signs leading to the village of Astakos, a favorite summer holiday destination among Greeks.
Astakos
With its authentic, local character, Astakos is an ideal location for a leisurely meal by the sea.
The journey continues to Aitoliko (Etoliko as the Greeks pronounce it), and then on to Antirion, the bridge, and the highway Patras to Athens.
