Healthy Snacks for Christmas Dinner and the Holidays

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” – Hippocrates, 460-370 BC

Some people believe that Christmas is primarily a holiday for children. We don’t agree. We believe that Christmas is a special occasion for everyone.

Without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful times of the year, which people of all ages eagerly anticipate.

We all enjoy the decorations, spending time with our loved ones, and the extended family and friend gatherings that last longer than any other occasion.

And much, much more.

Some of us may not decorate our homes at all, or at least not to the extent that we used to.

However, as we move around, we will indeed be able to see and enjoy the festive decorations.

The Christmas trees, millions of lights, Christmas carols, and carollers will set the tone.

Christmas is only a few weeks away at the time of writing this article. Everyone will be focused on Christmas over the next few weeks.

This is also the time when we start planning our get-togethers, family dinners, and parties.

This is the time when we make our shopping lists and look for ideas and special touches to make our dinner tables more festive and, dare we say, healthier.

In our region, the Med, we have a plethora of healthy snacks and foods. Our recommendations are all inspired from here.

From this land that mother nature has blessed with goodies.

One of our favourite appetisers and snacks is the French Goat Cheese with Greek Honey and Black Walnuts from France.

Roasted Chestnuts are the next best thing to enjoy anytime.

Chestnuts grow in abundance in Italy, Greece, France, Spain and Portugal.

But if you come across Sicilian Chestnuts you should give them a try.

One of our favourites is Dates from Egypt.

It is no secret that Egypt has the largest and best produce. And guess what. Egyptians are not the top exporters which must mean something.

Dates are not only delicious and healthy but they look very Christmasy too.

However, dates should be eaten all year long.

The famous Greek Dried Figs come next.

Another Mediterranean delicacy that can accompany your tea, coffee, drinks or a just glass of sweet wine.

Easy to get all over the world even though they are considered pricey in some countries.

All types of dried fruits and nuts should never be absent. They are delicious of course but they are also healthy and colourful.

Set by the coffee table they add their own vibe.
