Italian Christmas Delights – Delicious Simplicity

“Life is a combination of magic and pasta.” – Federico Fellini

How very true! Food in Italy is life. And it is most definitely magic.

It does not matter what you eat or where you eat it. For the Italians, food means a lot of things. And it is definitely NOT a nutrition obligation. Every meal is a joy.

Get Inspired to Spend Your Christmas in Italy

Maybe this is why the Italian Christmas delicacies and delights are too simply delicious.

Top on our list that we always try to enjoy during Christmas are:

Panettone

What would Christmas be without Panettone? A Christmas Sweet “Bread” with raisins, candied orange, citron, and lemon zest.

Panettone is not easy to make unless your pastry chef skills are above average. Italians say it is easy. I say it is one of the hardest things I ever tried to make.

Pandoro

I call Pandoro the beautiful sister of Panettone. Perfect for people like me that are not great funs of candied fruit editions.

Papepato

This is another Italian delight that is enjoyed a lot during Christmas. It comprises mainly dry fruits, honey and farina. If you enjoy spending time in the kitchen and testing your pastry skills, there are many recipes available online.

Torrone

Torrone is the Italian Nougat. A delicacy with a very long history. Popular all over Italy and available all year long.

But for Italians, it is even more popular during Christmas.

This tradition is also popular in Corfu, Greece where the name of this sweet is Mandolato.
