Pasta alla Norma! – Traditional Sicilian!

Travelling is an experience, an adventure, enrichment of knowledge and pleasure. Is inconceivable to find yourself in a new destination and not try the local cuisine.

Especially being in Sicily, where the way of cooking has remains of so many cultures of the many invaders (inhabitants) who lived on the island. Greeks, Arabs, Normans, Spanish, Romans left their traces.

Sicilians love cooking fresh vegetables such as eggplants, peppers, tomatoes and fish. Beautiful, colourful, healthy indulging dishes.

A dish representing the Sicilian gastronomic tradition, the Pasta alla Norma is a celebration of the Mediterranean flavours, tastes and colours.

The dish was so called in honour of Vincenzo Bellini’s opera ‘Norma’. Can you imagine the taste of it? To be compared with this magnificent masterpiece!?

Can you resist not to try it? I couldn’t. So, when my footsteps led me to Catania I had to try it. Amazing! Delicious Pasta alla Norma! Pasta mixed with a superb sauce and pieces of fresh aubergines, salty ricotta cheese, basil leaves, tomatoes onions and garlic.

A divine taste not to be missed that can be found in all restaurants around Sicily and definitely in Palermo, Catania, Taormina, Siracusa just to name a few.
