Serves 5-6 people as a main course

Ingredients for the meatballs

  • 1-kilo minced meat (you can use only beef or half quantity beef and half pork)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion medium size finely chopped
  • A handful of parsley finely chopped
  • One cup of fine dry breadcrumbs (better buy the ones used for Mediterranean dishes)
  • Salt, pepper
  • Two tabs of dried oregano
  • 1/2 a glass of olive oil
  • Ingredients for the tomato sauce
  • 500gr tomato passata
  • 2tbs tomato paste
  • 1tsp sugar, salt and pepper
  • 1 packet of spaghetti No 6

Preparation time for the meatballs 20-30 minutes

In a bowl, we put the minced meat with the ingredients for the meatballs mixing them very well. Then we take a small portion of the mixture rolling it in our palms until we have a round ball with an inch diameter.

Cooking time about 25-35 minutes

In a frying pan, we put quite a lot of olive oil or sunflower oil if you prefer and bring it to heat. When the oil is quite hot, we start putting the meatballs in turning them occasionally until golden brown on both sides. When ready take them out with a skimmer and put them on a dish.

Now it’s time to prepare the sauce. With a strainer, we clean unwanted bids from frying and put a quantity of this oil to cover the bottom of the saucepan and a little more.

The saucepan must be quite big and the purpose for using the same oil is for more taste. The saucepan with the oil goes on the heat and we add the tomatoes passata, the tomato pasta which we dissolve with a little water, we add salt, pepper and the sugar stirring them well to become one body.

Live it to boil for about 3-4 minutes and then add the meatballs for about 5 minutes to absorb some of the sauce and become softer.

We take out again and put water in the saucepan to cook the spaghetti. If the spaghetti needs 12 minutes to cook, in half of this time we add the meatballs again thus the spaghetti taking all the flavour.

It’s a delicious dish served as it is but for more taste sprinkle grated cheese on top. Enjoy!
