Athens – Enjoy the Greek Lifestyle for One Evening…

If you want to see, feel, and “taste” the city as a local would do, then arriving in Athens on Friday sometime in early afternoon is a great idea, since by the time you get to your hotel, settle in, unpack and relax for a while, you will find its the right time to “hit the town”…

A great way to start is an early evening walk in and around the streets of Syntagma Square. Here you can wander around the Unknown Soldier’s Monument and admire the National Guards as they stand guard.

Look further and you may be impressed by the imposing neoclassical building of the Hellenic Parliament and maybe walk a bit further down to admire the Ancient columns of Olympian Zeus.

Then head to Kolonaki to mingle with the locals. After a busy week at work, you will find Athenians are more relaxed, enjoying time with friends and family at one of the lovely places around the square. Even if shopping may not be on top of your agenda, do watch out for special offers, creations by Greek designers on display in various boutiques will probably tempt you in. Here shops stay open till late, so there’s plenty of time to stroll around window shopping.

All of Athens is really lively in the evenings. And even more on the weekends.

Greeks eat late in the evening when the night air tempts appetites. At dinnertime, the choices are endless, with restaurants and tavernas offering all kinds of cuisines from around the world.

Since the night will still be young after dinner, you should walk around in the soft balmy air and have a drink at one of the beautiful bars that are found everywhere.
